Research strongly supports the association between lifestyle and risk of chronic disease. These diseases have a large impact on corporate health care dollars, especially for self-insured companies. Smoking, obesity, hypertension, elevated blood sugar, high cholesterol, and a sedentary lifestyle are all associated with increased health care costs.
Adopting a healthier lifestyle can reduce risk and delay onset of many chronic diseases. Corporate health promotion programs can provide wellness education and encourage employees to adopt a healthier lifestyle. Offering these programs in a corporate setting can increase employee participation and emphasize a company's commitment to the health of their employees.
